Zunehmend scharren sich die guten alten, fast vergessenen Helden (siehe auch Bob Catley, Journey etc.) um das italienische "Auffangbecken" Frontiers Records. Bluesrock der Marke Glenn Hughes spiegelt demnach das inzwischen gering gewordene Interesse für diese Musikrichtung wider. Dennoch, über die gesanglichen Qualitäten des früheren Deep Purple/Black Sabbath Sängers zu diskutieren ist nach wie vor überflüssig, entlockt der inzwischen 51 jährige erneut seinem Organ unglaublich kräftige als auch sehr gefühlvolle Töne auf "Songs In The Key Of Rock".

Und wie siehts mit den Songs aus? Definitiv kein Schwachpunkt zu vermelden - Knackige Rocker à la "In My Blood" oder "Standing On The Rock" stehen wunderbar im Kontrast zu den wirklich Sehnsucht vermittelnden bluesorientierten Stücken "Lost In The Zone", "Get You Stoned" und "Written All Over Your Face"; "Higher Places (Song For Bonzo)" dürfte, wenn ich ganz daneben liege, eine Hommage an den lang verstorbenen Led Zeppelin Drummer John Bonham sein, verkörpert jene ein ähnlich dramatisches Flair wie der Zep Klassiker "Kashmir". Für gute Stimmung sorgen am Ende das locker-flockige "The Truth" und "Whereever You Go". Instrumental wurden alle Tracks gewohnt unverkrampft und tight aus dem Ärmel geschüttelt, auch die Hammond Orgel erhielt wieder mehr Einzug ohne dabei auf die Nüsse zu gehen.

Resümee: "Songs In The Key Of Rock" kann dem Überflieger "Addiction" aus dem Jahre 1996 nicht ganz das Wasser reichen, versüßt aber problemlos den verregneten Sonntag Nachmittag. Well done!
